PA ~ Tell us about George's Drum Shop.

It’s a work in progress. We sell, buy, rent new and used drums to the locals and on the internet at www.georgesdrumshop.com. We teach, repair, and build drums.

PA ~ What are some of the featured events?

This year we had 10,000 at our annual Drum Festival which features our customers playing solos, with bands and in drum ensembles. We also had clinics by regional, national and world famous drummers.

PA ~ What is your musical background?

Here’s my bio on my site if you want to grab some of that: http://www.georgesdrumshop.com/t-george.aspx

I come from a family of music lovers but I’m the only pro except for my son Paul. I grew up playing in school band, garage rock bands and started playing gigs when I was fifteen. I studied at music at North Texas State and have lived and played all over the country including long stints in L.A. and Nashville .

PA ~ Who / what inspired your interest in drums?

Ringo Starr and marching bands.

PA ~ What are some of your other interests outside of music?

Not much. I am a full time musician but I an an avid reader of history and fiction.

PA ~ What was your first concert?

Anita Bryant, of all people, was the first live concert I remember, in Memphis Tennessee .

PA ~ Any thanks to?

All the drummers I stole licks from.

PA ~ Good stories?

I once woke up at seven o’clock p.m. from a nap and remembered I had a gig that night at nine in a town three hours away from Dallas where I was living at the time. I jumped in my car and sped all the way there at 90 miles an hour. When I got to the gig there was another band setting up and I realized I was a day early!
